What To do to Make Your Hen Party Memorible – Some Ideas:
Make over – get all the girls in one place and share your hair and make-up tips. Make yourselves beautiful for a girls night out.
Go foreign – Dublin and Amsterdam and two of the most popular destinations for hen parties.
Get active – paintball, bowling, bungee jumping…do something totally different!
Food – eat out, forget the diets for one day and go wild.
Drinks – go somewhere with a party atmosphere. Choose a place that is used to dealing with hen parties, they’ll what to take care of you and ensure you have a ball. Cocktails are popular but don’t over do it!
Male stripper – it’s a bit of a cliché but the sudden appearance of a hunky policeman who strips to hid pelt will get your fellow hens laughing and give them something to talk about for a long time to come!
This starts off with the core hens. That includes you (of course) and probably one or two others. These are the guests the hen just could not have a hen party without. If they were not going to be there it just wouldn’t be worth doing!
These hens will want to be there so make sure you give plenty of notice because if they can’t make it due to lack of planning they will be sorely missed (and it will always be your fault, yikes! Pressure!)
Extended Friends
Next there’s the extended network of friends. Girls the hen gets on well with or is related to. She might not see some of them from one end of the year to the next and their presence is not guaranteed. In many cases the core hens would prefer if they didn’t attend as they’re not part of the inner circle. Still, best to invite them with plenty of notice!
The “We Have To Invite Them” List
This section of the list can be a really party stopper and consists of friends of friends and future in-laws of the hen. These are people the core group of hens hardly know which can make it difficult for the party to flow. It’s also hard for the poor hen as she’ll be under pressure to be on her best behaviour all night.
Remember, they may not relish the thoughts of attending the hen party either (for the same reasons mentioned above), so have a little chat with the hen about this group. They may be happy with a separate night out in their neck of the woods!
If you are getting married while still a student there are two main factors you’ll have to bear in mind when considering hen party ideas.
Hen Party Costs
Students are notoriously short of cash, this may be the case for the hen and probably for the majority of guests (most will be students no doubt).
Schedule Your Hen Party
This won’t be too difficult to get right if you plan well in advance. Most students start and finish the college around the same time. They also have holidays at the same time of the college calendar year so planning a hen weekend away should be a breeze. Just remember to give plenty of warning as most students live an active social life and may have plenty of offers, so make sure you get them well in advance before they make a comment to attend another party!
What To Do On Your Hen Night?
Because of budget constraints a foreign hen party holiday is probably out of the question. So too is expensive restaurants and activities. In this case it’s best to keep it intimate so here’s some suggestions.
Rent a holiday cottage in a small town or village in the country. Splitting the costs of the rental between all the hens will mean the cost to individual is cheap.
Tell all your guests to bring their favourite beauty treatment, enough to share, for the make over of the century! Everyone takes turns at makeovers.
Tell all your guests to bring ingredients for their favourite cocktails, again, with enough to share. You can also pick-up a couple bottles of inexpensive wine from a supermarket to bring with you.
Bring a stereo and lots of girly music to get the party rolling. Classics like “I Will Survive” and “It’s Raining Men” are obligatory!
Get the phone numbers of a couple of take-away restaurants in the area (in advance) and order out. Lots of delicious food without the hassle!
That’s it! You have the makings of a perfect girly night in without huge expense for anyone. Enjoy the student hen party of the year!
