A party theme helps to pull the whole event together so whatever you do, don’t leave it out as without it your hen party could be a boring flop!

When deciding on a theme remember to consider the bride-to-bes preference and ideas of fun. Some classic hen party themes include dressing as nurses, policewomen, cowgirls, nuns and saucy devils.

Here are some other great ideas to help make your hen night one to remember:

Get some cool hen night costumes and accessories.

Play games like ‘Truth or Dare’, ‘Mr.&.Mrs quiz’, etc.

If partying from home hire a stripper, have a make-over evening before hitting the local club.

Visiting an exclusive club, get there in style by hiring a limousine (not as expensive as you may think!).

Why should the boys have all the fun? Try paintball or quad-biking for something out of the ordinary.

Think luxery and pampering. Visit a spa, enjoy a sauna or Jacuzzi after a swim in a heated pool, then have a relaxing professional massage, manicure, and pedicure.

So remember, pick a great theme, some fun activities and make your hen night one to remember for a lifetime!

Hen party celebrations is all about getting the atmosphere just right, so what better way to create a buzz than with some great drinking games and risque dares?

Naughty Treasure Hunt

Lets kick things off with a naughty little treasure hunt. Take a minute or two to list a number of items to gather (be creative as possible!). Some ideas for items are warm men’s underwear, something phallic shaped (bigger the better) and of course a kiss from a fine looking bloke (has to be in front of the other girls!) Go hunting together or split up into teams.

Pass The Balloon

Another popular game is ‘Pass The Balloon’. You need to find some lads to play with and make two teams and line up as boy girl, boy girl. Blow up your long shapped balloons and start passing them from one person to the next down along the line. No hands thought, the balloons must be gripped with your knees.

Kiss The Donkey

Time for a Hen party game called ‘Kiss The Donkey’. It’s a simple game to play but has a wicked twist in its tail. Sit players in a circle and arrange as girl boy, girl boy all the way around. The first player holds up a beer bottle and kisses it in a particular place (for example, the bottle neck). They then announce to the other players, “I kissed the donkey on it’s neck”. They then pass the bottle to their right. Each player repeats the process, but must kiss the donkey in a unique place. The game then starts again, but this time the bottle is passed to the left.

This is the good bit, the twist that surprises everyone is when you announce to the players to kiss the player to their right where they kissed the bottle and again for the person on their left. What usually happens is the player on the right gets a kiss in an acceptable place, and the person on the left is kissed on a more imaginative part of their body! LOL!

More Hen Party Stuff

Check out the other pages on hen party ideas for more imaginative games and some ‘must have’ hen party products. Remember to really make the most of ‘your last night of freedom ’ with your mates and make your hen night one to remember forever!

If the hundreds of choices associated with the wedding weren’t bad enough, then comes the problem of planning the hen night. How hard can it be? So you start looking around and realize how many more decisions you’re going to have to make…

There are thousands of choices. Long weekends or just a night? Have the hen night plenty of time before the big day or just a few days? Big group or small and intimate?

Worse still is the major decision: will you organize it or leave it to your maid of honor or group of friends? Both have their advantages. If you organize it, you will get exactly what you want but you also get all the associated stress. With someone else organizing it you have no direct stress except for the stress of the unknown!

So, if you’re anything like me, you end up planning your own. Here are a few of your options:

1) A weekend city break in Europe gives you alternative culture, great food and absolutely minimal chances of running into anyone you know whilst doing something embarrassing!

However, it can be expensive and occasionally the language barrier can put the odd hen party into tricky situations. Popular destinations include Prague, Spain, Italy and France. Dublin provides a compromise but is very expensive.

2) A weekend break in a city in the UK allows you to do whatever tickles your fancy – spa treatments, clubbing, shopping or even an adventure weekend (for the more adventurous bride to be!) in reasonably familiar surroundings.

However, these weekends can work out more expensive than going abroad, particularly once food and drink expenses are factored in! Popular destinations include Edinburgh, York, Manchester and London.

The problem with planning for a weekend can be coordinating a convenient time for everyone and of course, summoning the money from everyone in good time to book! So it may be that just an evening would be better. Your choices with that are also endless!

1) A meal with friends. It’s nice, it’s civilized and you can more or less guarantee a good time… it doesn’t exactly scream last hurrah does it!

2) A night on the town with good friends can provide loads of fun. However, the downsides are that it isn’t something you’ve never done before, particularly if it’s somewhere local to you (which also means any ‘final transgressions’ are unlikely to go unnoticed…)

3) Bowling…fun but only when combined with other activities, definitely NOT an entire hen night.

4) A day at a theme park. Ok, it’s childish but hey! It’s your day and there is no denying the fun! A day of rides and junk food is great for large groups.

4) A day of shopping followed by a few cocktails will always go down well, so maybe heading to the nearest large city for a wide variety of shops and bars could be the answer.

5) Spa days! And there is no rule claiming it has to be total detox so one or two glasses of wine are allowed as you get massaged, groomed and pampered to perfection!

Unfortunately the decisions don’t stop there because there will always be the question of theme. From here comes a big choice, tacky or classy?

Tacky themes include army theme, emergency services, Barbie, devils and angels, 60′s/ 70′s, doctors and nurses, beach party, school girls… the list goes on and on.

There is nothing wrong with taking the tacky route; it provides fun preparing and getting ready. It also makes your fellow hens instantly recognizable over a crowded bar!

Classy themes include, black and white (or any color combo of your choice), dresses to impress (ball gowns and cocktail dresses), 1920′s glam, masked ball or even (if done right!) a toga theme! These give less of a chance to be massively creative but they do also mean less embarrassment at the photos the next day!

So, you have a thousand choices, each all easy to combine with a thousand others. How do you decide? Well, one way to keep everyone happy is have an evening where everyone gets together and makes suggestions. Obviously bride has final veto, that’s a given, but it allows a free flow of ideas that people may not have come up with alone.

Also, by getting everyone to bring their diary, you can choose a time convenient for everybody. Problem solved! And a few bottles of wine should really help to get those creative juices flowing. Enjoy!

First of all – thank god – we can forget the flights. Quite frankly the recent fad for jetting off to some far-flung corner of Europe for two nights and one hung over day was all a little unnecessary and inconvenient in the first place.

It’s now all about keeping the festivities close to home. There are plenty of fun activities both for the day time and the hen night itself, in all the major cities here in the good old UK.

Hen Nights in

And if you like the close-to-home theme, why not go the whole hog and have your hen party… at home? There’s nothing wrong with a having a big night in instead of a big night out, in fact it’s becoming quite fashionable, and you can make your budget go a lot further.

What you’ll need:

Decorations

If you’re providing the venue, you can still turn it into a proper hen party scene with a few not-too-expensive props and decorations.

You can find some great hen party balloons, personalised banners, ribbons, themed party poppers and the like, which make any room look fantastic but don’t cost much at all.

Here are some good hen party decorations.

An Activity

Of course, the point of a hen night to bring the hen’s favourite gals together and have a royal knees up – and if it’s fun, well that’s all that matters! As long as you’ve got your party hats on, you’ll be fine…

But… It doesn’t hurt to bring in something a little unusual to break the ice or for you all have a good laugh at.

There are a number of hen night entertainment providers who will come to your home and bring the party to you. Two of the best are:

Butlers in the Buff. (having your cocktails served by a naked hunk can’t do your evening any harm!)

and…

The Pamper Party, which also does what it says on the tin: Get someone to come round and treat you all like princesses, but again without breaking the bank in the process.

Games and Dares

Don’t think that just because you’re not out and about, you can get away without some embarrassing dares!

If you haven’t got men to harass, you can always make your own! It’s simply amazing how versatile an inflatable, instant perfect man can be when it comes to that part of the evening…

See the best hen night games and dare accessories.

A Theme

Nothing helps to get everyone into the party frame of mind better than a dress-up theme. The sillier, the better – this is a hen night after all!

Co-ordinate your outfits around a theme. If you want to go traditional: bunny ears and tails are an easy winner; angels and devils, cowgirls, schoolgirls (this works great for a school-sports day theme!) or police women are all great, tried-and-tested party-starters.

For a more personal touch, choose a theme that means something specific to the hen. I recently went to a hen do for a half-Chinese friend marrying a Scottish guy. Theme: Scottish and Chinese!.

Silly Novelties

Now, whether you’re out or in, it’s the little (silly) details that make really a hen night.

You may scoff now… but after your first two drinks, don’t underestimate the childish pleasure of drinking your third one through a willy straw!

Themed novelties like head boppers – maybe willy boppers (should I seek help..?) – bubble blowers and party poppers can completely transform a night in, into a proper hen party!

Essential, silly hen night novelties.

Nowadays more and more people are wanting to do a hen party on the cheap. Asides from the economic climate, weddings cost masses of money; travel, wedding gifts and new outfits all add up and so hen parties are being budgeted. But that doesn’t mean less fun! With a little know how and a few top tips, you can show your bride-to-be a cracking good time, without having to fork out a bundle of money. It’s worth it, even if it means making that extra bit of time and effort.

1. Mr and Mrs. Questions:

This is the best hen party game in terms of it being cost effective, taking up time and it is personal to boot. It takes a bit more time to plan but it’s great as it gives the bride-to-be a good giggle, plus entertains the rest of the hens; they get to hear some saucy secrets from the nearly wedded couple!

Mr. and Mrs. Questions, here’s how: Get the groom to agree to be videod (if he refuses ask him if he’ll answer questions on email, though video is much more fun). Now get all the hens to write in with questions about the bride-to-be, which they want the groom to answer. It’s essentially a game of ‘how well does the groom know the bride-to-be.’ The questions can range from super embarrassing to every day minutia – ‘What is your bride-to-be’s bra size’ to more saucy questions about what they get up to in the bedroom! Now video the groom answering all the questions and during the hen party, get the bride-to-be to second guess what she thinks her fiance has answered. If she gets it right, give her a drink. And if she gets it wrong, give her a drink! (If you have minimised spend elsewhere, you can ask everyone to bring a really cheap present; if she gets the question right, she gets a present). Here are some more Mr. and Mrs. Questions: Mr. and Mrs. Questions.

2. Personalised hen gifts

Personalised hen gifts are a fantastic way of budgeting. You can buy really cheap hen gifts and for a few extra pounds (sometimes even less) you can get them personalised with the hen’s name or with some personal message. A few ideas would be to personalise some saucy knickers; perhaps for the hen’s honeymoon; or a dressing gown which would always be a keepsake reminder from her hen party! You can even personalise cakes, canvases, photo albums – pretty much anything really. (A popular personalised hen gift item is a new personalised male calendar; it’s got a different male model for each month and you can personalise then hen’s name in various ways).

If you think it’s going to be expensive, choose one gift to personalise and get your hens to each chip in a couple of quid. You’ll be able to find something that fits. It’s a really lovely way of going that extra mile and showing your chief hen that a little thought and time has gone into her hen party.

3. Decorations

Ok the fiddly bit. Decorations can be really expensive; you start buying a few things and then realise that it’s not going to be enough, so you buy more and more…STOP! You can make your own decorations really easily; buy a load of cheap balloons and personalise them with some coloured marker pens. For table decorations use a load of candy and sprinkle them around the place; star shaped sweets and hearts in pinks and reds work a treat. Get the hens to bring loads of photos and get them printed off on A3 (you don’t have to bother printing them off professionally; it’s a waste of money). Print off massive pics of naked/ half naked men and it will look more and more like a hen party. And to top it all off, buy some really cheap tea lights. You can get 100s for next to nothing at places like Robert Dyas. These make a place look amazing and doesn’t cost anything.

4. Plan your own activities.

Some activities cost a bomb; you can plan your own very easily. Do tournaments, or sports days. These cost nothing and with a little organisation can take up a whole day. You can do races (egg and spoon, three-legged etc). You can also get people to pay a small amount for prizes. Games and dares are also a great time-filler and don’t cost any money. If you want some pampering, you could have a pyjama party and get each girl to practise their massaging skills on the other hens. (If someone is rubbish at massage they can give a manicure).

5. Make your own food.

Ok the ingredients are going to cost a bit but it’s better than forking out for a private caterer. And if you get each person to bring a pre-planned dish, even better. If someone’s good at baking, get them to make a load of cupcakes with then hen’s name on them with sprinkles and silver balls; the personal touch will go a long way in making the hen feel special.

Right – now the budget’s sorted, get organising and have fun! For more hen party planning ideas and resources, go to Hen gifts
